NAMIBIA STUN SOUTH AFRICA BY 18 RUNS IN T20 TRI SERIES OPENER.


History made in Windhoek! Namibia beat South Africa by 18 runs in the opening match of the T20I Tri-Series involving Zimbabwe. This is Namibia’s 2nd ever T20I win vs South Africa and both have come at home. 

South Africa fielded a depleted side with most regulars rested.

 Namibia Innings: 163/9 in 20 overs

Namibia got off to a flying start. Openers Jan Frylinck 60 off 38 and Louren Steenkamp 41 off 29. put on  84 runs in 9.4 overs.

At one stage 200 looked possible, but SA spinners pulled it back. Prenelan Subrayen 3/32 and Bjorn Fortuin 2/17 were excellent.

Late cameos from Gerhard Erasmus 19, Busing-Volschenk 13 and Trumpelmann 12 took Namibia to 163/9. 


 South Africa Innings: 145/9 in 20 overs

SA chase got derailed early. Jordan Hermann 7 and Lhuan-dre Pretorius 9 fell in the first 4 overs.

Dewald Brevis kept SA alive with a brilliant 75 off 50 balls, 5 sixes. He added 47 runs with debutant Duan Jansen 25.

But Ruben Trumpelmann 3/24 removed Brevis at a crucial time. JJ Smit 3/31 also struck.

SA finished on 145/9 - 18 runs short.

1. Head-to-Head Lead:    Namibia now lead SA 2-0 in T20Is. They also beat SA in Oct 2025 in Windhoek

2. Tri-Series Start:    Namibia start with a win. SA will next face Zimbabwe today

3. Associate Upset:    Only the 2nd time SA have lost to an Associate nation in T20Is.


Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus said the win was “a proud moment” for the team.
